We’re posting regular blogs out to help you small business owners. SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is where you optimise your website to rank on search engines. Therefore, the higher up the search engine ranking for a keyword you are – the more likely you will get clicks to your website.
You should be able to optimise your website fairly easily on most website builders and our personal choice, WordPress. Have a look at our basic SEO steps…
ONE: SEO title
This is the top heading (in blue usually) in search engines. This needs to be short, snappy and also include your keyword as close to the start as possible!
Example: for a holiday park in Leominster, Herefordshire you may put “Touring Caravan Park Leominster, Herefordshire”
To summarise, your main keyword would be “Touring Caravan Park Leominster” in the above example. This would need to be used in your content optimisation and SEO meta description
TWO: SEO meta description
This is slightly longer and is an overview of the page. Make sure you include your keyword(s) and keep it short.
Example (using the touring caravan park example): “Countryside touring caravan park Leominster, Herefordshire. Dog and family friendly caravan park in Leominster. Explore our Herefordshire countryside!”
To summarise, make sure you include your keyword (touring caravan park Leominster) but also use other keywords associated such as caravan park, and herefordshire countryside. You need to make it tailored to your situation.
THREE: Content optimisation
All the keywords you list (we recommend adding them to a bit of paper whilst writing the content or tweaking the content) need to be in your content. For the popular keywords e.g. touring caravan park Leominster – you need to include them in headings, sub headings and also dotted about in the content. Therefore, you need to consider what you are writing before you optimise your content.
To summarise, you need to add your keywords appropriately to the content (include them enough but don’t over do it).
Don’t forget your calls to action (e.g. BOOK NOW). If you are using WordPress there are SEO plugins to help you optimise your content.
